
SRI PASUPATHEESWARAR TEMPLE - AAVOOR
Aavoor is famous for the 5 Bhairavas who guard the village and are famous in the vicinity. It is the only temple which is known to host 5 Bhairavas.
Aavoor belongs to the category of temples known as "Maadak Koeyil”. This is one of the temples constructed by Koechchengat Choezhan. The story is associated with Thiruvaanaikkaaval temple on the outskirts of Trichy.
Once a neglected and dilapidated temple, it is now renovated and is in a very good shape. Goddess Pankajavalli is also placed on the high ground facing south. Pankajavalli is treated as the main goddess. This temple has 2 goddesses, one is Pankajavalli and the other is Mangalaambigai. Mangalaambigai is said to have been found in the temple pond.

Kavardeswara
Mother Parvathi came to earth, chose this place to perform penance. The Devas – belonging to the celestial world.She came here in the form of plants and trees to worship the Goddess and it was a jungle. Pleased with Her penance, Lord Shiva appeared before the Goddess with his Jadamudi( long hair rolled as a crown on the head). He therefore also bear he name Kavardesswarar.
Pasupatheeswarar
Patti, the calf of he divine cow Kamadenu was wise enough to know the glory of the place, made a Linga, performed abishek with its milk and prayed to Lord Shiva to stay in this place. As the Lord was worshipped by a Pasu (cow).Lord was named Pasupatheeswarar.
Govandhakudi
Divine cow Kamadenu visited the shrine to get relief from the curse of Sage Vasishta. Cow is known as GO in Sanskrit. As the cow came to this place, this is also known as Govandhakudi (palace where the GO came). The abishek performed by Kamadenu is depicted in the flag post of the temple.
Manikudam Or Aswathavanam
A challenge broke out between Vaayu (lord of Air) and Aadhisaeshan (Snake ) that supports Vishnu on who is more powerful, Vaayu blow wind very hard while Aashisaeshan was hugging tight the mountain of kailash. it is said that 2 peaks of the mountain were dislocated by Vaayu and fell onto earth. One is said to be Aavoor and the other is Nalloor about 8 kms away.
Pancha Bhairavar
This pancha Bahairavar and one Pair of Goddess are found from Pond as per Asirithi and Installed for workship in temple.

Temple Greatness
King Dasaratha
King Dasaratha came here for praying Lord and find only the idol of Lord Shiva, So he installed new of Pankaja Valli and performed pooja invoking the blessings of both. An invisible voice indicated to him the location of ‘Pancha Bairava’ idols hidden beneath. Dasaratha located these unique idols and installed the idols of Pancha Bairava opposite the Pankaja Valli Sannidhi. This is a Parikara Sthalam for Pithru Dosham and Drishti Dosham. It is believed one would be liberated from these after offering sincere prayers to the Pancha Bairava .On the Eastern wall opposite the Pankaja Valli Sannidhi, one finds the sculpture of King Dasaratha offering his prayers to Lord Shiva.
Dhanushsubramaniyan
King Dasaratha invoked the blessings of Lord Muruga at this temple Seeking a handsome boy.It is believed that Rama was born subsequent to the prayers offered by Dasaratha here. Hence in memory of this event, Lord Subramanya is seen in a unique posture with a bow and arrow in hand.
king Darmadhwaja
A king, Darmadhwaja by name had a dip in the holy spring Brahmma theertham and was cured of his leprosy. Lord Muruga graces in the temple with a bow in his hand.
