Sivanandeswarar Temple – Remedies for Speech & Stammering
The Sivanandeswarar Temple is located in Tirupandurai, a serene village situated 9 km southeast of Kumbakonam and close to Nachiyar Koyil. This sacred temple lies along the route between Kumbakonam and Karaikkal and stands as the 64th Tevara Stalam in the Chola Kingdom. Recognized as a Padal Petra Stalam, it has been glorified in the hymns of the revered Saint Thiruganasambandar.
TEMPLE HISTORY (STHALA VARALARU)
The temple’s divine history revolves around Lord Shiva and Lord Muruga. According to legend, Lord Brahma, the Creator, was unable to explain the meaning of the sacred Om Pranava Mantra when questioned by Lord Muruga. In response, Muruga imprisoned Brahma, which disrupted creation itself. Lord Shiva intervened and informed Muruga that he could resume duties only after understanding the essence of the Pranava Mantra.
To regain his speech, Lord Muruga arrived at Tirupandurai, created a Shivalinga, and worshiped Lord Shiva through Abhishekam services. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva restored his speech. Thus, Shiva is worshiped here as Pranaveswarar, the Lord of the Pranava Mantra, making this temple significant for speech-related blessings.
