The Story of Lord Narasimha

Believing himself to be invincible, Hiranyakashipu began ruling the worlds with cruelty and demanded that everyone worship him instead of Lord Vishnu. However, his own son Prahlada became a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu and constantly chanted the Lord’s name.

Furious with his son’s devotion, Hiranyakashipu tried many ways to harm Prahlada. Yet every attempt failed because of the divine protection of Lord Vishnu. One day, Hiranyakashipu angrily asked whether Vishnu existed even inside the palace pillar. Prahlada replied that the Lord exists everywhere.

In rage, Hiranyakashipu struck the pillar. Instantly, the pillar split open and Lord Narasimha appeared in a magnificent Man-Lion form. At twilight, on the palace threshold, the Lord placed the demon on his lap and destroyed him with his sharp claws.
