Lord Shiva consumed this poison to save creation and held it in his throat, which turned blue. Because of this act of sacrifice, he came to be known as Neelkantha.

The Devas prayed to Lord Shiva during the twilight period known as Pradosha Kalam, seeking protection and blessings. Pleased with their devotion, Lord Shiva blessed them and restored cosmic balance. Since then, this sacred time has been observed as Pradosham, a powerful period to worship Lord Shiva.
