Ramalinga Swamigal lived across the ancient villages of Puthukkulam, Kuvalai Veli, and Kattikulam. A revered spiritual master believed to have lived around 18 AD, he shaped generations of practitioners within the ancient Siddhar practices. His disciple Chellappa Swamigal later guided Mayandi Swamigal, forming a deeply rooted Siddhar lineage.

Because of this spiritual continuity, Mayandi Swamigal referred to himself as the hereditary successor of Soottukkol Ramalinga Swamigal Ayya.

The Power of the Soottukkol – A Metallic Staff of Healing

Ramalinga Swamigal always carried a sacred metallic rod known as the Soottukkol. This powerful instrument was used to remove negativity and reduce karmic influences. When placed on the head of an individual affected by negative energies or harmful thoughts, the metallic stick produced a burning sensation—symbolizing the clearing and purification of karmic residues. This aligns with the essence of karmic purification rituals.

Miracle of the Five Trees – “Anju Marathan”

Near Kattikulam, Ramalinga Swamigal manifested a miraculous sight—five different trees growing from a single trunk. Astonished villagers lovingly named him “Anju Marathan.” Pieces of this sacred trunk remain preserved at the Ramalinga Swamigal Temple in Kattikulam. It was here that the parents of Mayandi Swamigal prayed for a male child, and their prayers were fulfilled through his divine blessings.

The Creation of Ramar Theertham

During his time with village youths, a moment of thirst led Swamigal to press a wooden stick into the ground, instantly creating a never-drying freshwater spring. Today, this holy water source is known as Ramar Theertham, located on the western bank of Kattikulam.

The Jeeva Samadhi Temple of Ramalinga Swamigal is located in Mannargudi, Thiruvarur District. Every year, devotees gather here for the annual Guru Puja on Thai Poosam, while annadhanam is offered on every new moon and full moon day. Many seek spiritual protection and blessings at this sacred site.
