Lighting a lamp, known as Deepa Jyothi, holds deep spiritual significance. It is believed to dispel ignorance and bring prosperity, health, and good fortune. The oil used for lighting lamps is also important, as different oils carry unique spiritual benefits:
Cow’s Ghee:
- Fosters positive energy and attracts the blessings of Mahalakshmi Devi.
- Helps eliminate poverty, bringing wealth and good health.
Sesame Oil (Til or Gingelly Oil):
- Removes doshas and wards off negative energies.
- Reduces bad karma and challenges, particularly during Sade-sati or Saturn’s Mahadasa and Antardasa.
Neem Oil:
- Opens doors to wealth and is recommended for prayers to Lord Bhairava on New Moon days or Krishna Ashtami.
- When combined with Mahua oil, it enhances blessings from Goddess Parasakthi and family deities.
Castor Oil:
- Brings happiness to family life, aids spiritual growth, and attracts fame and prosperity.
- Draws good fortune from relatives.
Coconut Oil:
- Invokes blessings from Lord Ganesha and family deities.
- Enhances domestic happiness and harmony.
Mahua Oil:
- Attracts blessings from Lord Shiva and helps alleviate debt and health issues.
Panchadeepa Oil:
- A blend of sesame or coconut oil, castor oil, neem oil, mahua oil, and cow’s ghee.
- Brings wealth, good health, happiness, and prosperity while neutralizing negative energies.
Note: Avoid using sunflower or groundnut oil for lamp lighting, as they are believed to increase debts and financial difficulties.
Worshipping Lord Bhairava with Pancha Deepa oil lamps on Ashtami and New Moon days is recommended for overcoming obstacles, fear, and misery, promoting overall well-being. You can also sponsor oil offerings at temples and Siddhars' temples through Tirikala.
